I always tell people that one of the reasons I love doing what I do so much is that I get to reconnect with people that sometimes I wouldn’t have otherwise have gotten a chance to spend such intimate time with. People who have been familiar to me over the years, but when they email me to do their wedding photography, I can’t help but yell YES because I get an even closer and rare look at their celebrations. And even though they’ve “hired” me — I get to experience it as a friend and not a vendor.
The Bowlbys have always held a special place in my heart. Despite hardships they are among one of the most spirited and intentional group of people I’ve come to know. So naturally, when Kelsey contacted me last year about marrying her French beau in Seattle along with only their closest friends and family, I didn’t waver for a second. I knew I wanted to be a part of it. You guys, I can’t tell you how emotionally fulfilling this day was. 19 people gathered together for a day-long, patient, and honest celebration of love that literally crossed oceans. Everything from the vows to the toasts, from the bi-lingual hellos to the quick descriptions of what they were eating, from the exchanging of gifts to the laughs, tears, and recalling of memories was savored. Everything. Half in English and half in French you couldn’t help but feel like you were in a whole other world.
I want this. This right here is hands down my most proud work I’ve shot to date and I can only hope more people invite me along to capture it. The deepest and heartfelt wishes to the bride & groom, their families & friends….you two deserve nothing but the very, very best in marriage & in life. Cheers to Kelsey & Bastien.
