• Proposal Story // Kate & Adam •

Oh where to begin with this one.

It was such a fun, emotional, creatively fulfilling, and just HAPPY day. Not only for me, but for a dear dear friend of mine, Kate and her man Adam — who pulled off one stunning proposal. I’m so honored to have been a part of this and capture such a milestone for them. Plus, we had a fabulous day actually shooting for fun (mind you, I love what I do, but sometimes it’s nice to just let loose and do whatever) in a beautiful place, with good friends. Doesn’t get much better. However, let’s start at the beginning, shall we?

My boyfriend and I had ventured out to Eastern WA a few months ago to do a little hiking and exploring and had stumbled upon some sand dunes. Spending an hour or so there, I knew I had to get back there and shoot. Whether it was with friends, clients, etc. didn’t matter. The fact was they were stunning and I needed to return (plus, I had no idea they even existed in Washington!) However, the desire to go out and shoot here quickly grew a second agenda — a proposal.

A bit before we had set our plan in stone with some lovely girlfriends, I get a phone call from Kate’s boyfriend, Adam wanting to see if he could pull of a proposal out at these sand dunes. UMMM yes, sir, you can certainly do that. He was about to walk into one of the best documented proposals in history…3 photographers with cameras on hand waiting to shoot in one of the most picturesque places. Talk about well planned! We spoke, schemed, and figured out a way to make it happen during our day trip to Frenchman’s Coulee. Here are a few photos from the day prior to the engagement…read on.

HOLY Schnikes, new branding is here!

You guys. It’s finally here. Alive, in it’s flesh, for the whole world to see (okay, maybe the 10 of you that actually read this thing and my mom). I HAVE AN ACTUAL PORTFOLIO SITE for the first time since I’ve started this crazy business. And it’s loaded with not only weddings & engagements, but commercial work, lifestyle work, portraits, travel, etc.

I’m also so excited to reveal my new branding! A lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into this thing over the last year when I originally started this whole crazy idea of “hey, I can totally do this myself!”. And of course, as the months moved on, I procrastinated more and more. That’s the funny thing about branding yourself — you can take your sweet ass time because you’re not running up a bill. And that’s the most awful part….I have a million chances to change something and second guess myself. Well, it ends now. Clean, simple, bright, but considered. I’m happy, proud, and think this is the truest reflection of allowing my photography work to shine.

A new website, a new blog, business cards, thank you cards, envelopes, zip drives, packaging and custom wrapping paper. There’s also a slew of behind the scenes things like a custom contract, questionnaire, client pdfs, welcome booklet & pricing guide (which you can see pulled up on the iPad at the end). Whew. I don’t think I’ll be taking on another one of these bad boys for a loooooong time. Throughout the post, I’ll point out all vendors involved in case you’re interested.

Here it is in all it’s glory — the new Carina Skrobecki Photography. So go, wander around & explore. Hope y’all like it!   PortfolioPackaging_CASPhoto-2PortfolioPackaging_CASPhoto-16 My business cards were printed through the Pike Street Press by my buddy Sean — 220# Crane Lettra with a deep blue and a copper edge painting. Love the way they turned out! PortfolioPackaging_CASPhoto-7

Julia & Deric

Oh hello lovely blogging land! I have been totally neglecting you the last couple of months. Yikes, this winter has shaped up to be MUCH busier than expected so I’ve been straight up ignoring this poor little blog. However, I’m here to stay (and a new rebrand is coming next week!!!) and I have a lovely wedding to share with you. :) So many good things!

Deric & Julia were married back in February on an actually decent day in Seattle (thank you for rain gods for not pouring on us). The two of them met while working at JCrew, so it only makes sense that their wedding was a super classy, chic, city affair. I’ve known Deric since college so it was so nice to meet the gal he’s been fawning over the last 7 (yes 7) years! Wishing them nothing but the best.

A huge thank you to Sergio Mottola for rocking this wedding with me. Many of the images below are his.

• Palm Springs •

A few from the my latest trip to Palm Springs — which has become my happy place and I truly look forward to every time I get to visit. Drinks, the pool, the sun…it  doesn’t get more relaxing. This time we made it a point to seek out a few more places to explore and I’ve now successfully added two amazing recommendations for this area.

First, go to the Painted Canyon, or the “ladders hike” in Mecca (takes about an hour to get to from PS). I’m pretty sure I said the word “woah” about 100 times walking through there. My photos don’t do it justice. You get to climb over boulders, squeeze your way down tiny corridors, and climb ladders that lead up to different levels of the canyon. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a wee bit nervous (hello, tiny places when your claustrophobic…all while we’re chillin’ on the San Andreas fault? yea…about that) but it was so so so so worth it. The amount of colors on these walls…just stripes of gold, pink, red, purple. From there, you pop out above the canyons and walk the edge with an amazing view until you make your way back down into a huge river bed. Easily one of the best hikes I’ve been on (and probably the first hike a wiener dog has successfully finished). :)

Next, the Glamis Sand Dunes. It’s incredible that these places exist just within our reach. It’s about a 2 hour drive from Palm Springs (we did all in a day’s trip and it was fine) and you can either pay to get into the park and drive around, or you can do what we did, and just went to the lookout and explored a bit. When we arrived, I just stood there in awe for about five minutes, before running to throw off my shoes and grab my camera. I don’t have many words…you feel like you’re in the Sahara. Just go.

Miss Olivia — Part Two

I don’t have much to say (weird) for this post…only that I’m so glad that it happened. It felt so nice to get out and do something with full reign. Exploring Georgetown and even sneaking our way into a little warehouse.

Here’s the gorgeous Olivia once again. Another huge thank you to Kristen for her genius work.
